The
highly rated 25-year-old is thought to be on the radar of Rafa
Benitez's side, but president Maurizio Zamparini insists there are
currently foreing suitors only for the player
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini says that there has been no approach from Napoli for star player Josip Ilicic, following speculation surrounding the playmaker's future. The highly-rated Slovenian midfielder has been linked with a move to the Partenopei this summer, but 71-year-old Zamparini has revealed the player is more likely to join an overseas club at present than join last season's Serie A runners-up.
“[Napoli President Aurelio] De Laurentiis spoke to me about Ilicic three months ago,” Zamparini told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“But since then I have not heard anything more. I don't think Napoli have an interest in Ilicic at this point.
“At the moment there are two foreign clubs in for the player.”
Ilicic has made 125 appearances for Palermo since joining in 2010, scoring 25 goals, and has previously been attracted the interest of the likes of Chelsea and AC Milan.
At international level, the 25-year-old has made 22 appearances for Slovenia since making his debut in 2010.
