'Eriksen is ready for the big time' - Olsen

'Eriksen is ready for the big time' - Olsen

The Denmark boss says the Ajax youngster is set for a move to a European giant amid speculation linking him with a switch to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund this summer
Ajax attacker Christian Eriksen is ready for a move to a bigger club, according to Denmark coach Morten Olsen.

Speculation has intensified in recent weeks over where the 21-year-old will be plying his trade next season, with some believing he is being lined up by Borussia Dortmund in a bid to replace Bayern Munich-bound Mario Gotze.

Olsen, who coaches the starlet at international level, says Eriksen has come of age and is well-equipped to handle a move to one of Europe's finest clubs.

"This is the right time for him to go," Olsen told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. "There are many players who moved to a top club too early, but Christian is really ready.

"He played great against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, PSV and Feyenoord this season, so maybe that's where Dortmund's interest stems from."

In addition to BVB coach Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is also rumoured to be a fond admirer of the Denmark international - whose Ajax deal expires next summer - but last month the Dutch champions denied reports of a deal being struck by the Reds to bring the youngster to Anfield.

Heynckes denies Real Madrid agreement

Jupp Heynckes has dismissed Anatoliy Tymoshchuk's Real Madrid claims as a "joke"

The departing Bayern Munich boss has dismissed claims from Anatoliy Tymoshchuk that a deal is "99 per cent" agreed but hinted he may reveal his future plans on Saturday
Jupp Heynckes has denied claims from Bayern Munich midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk that he has agreed a deal to take over at Real Madrid.

Tymoshchuk said on Thursday that the 68-year-old was "99 per cent" certain to replace Jose Mourinho at Santiago Bernabeu once he leaves his post at the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.

However, Heynckes has now moved to deny that any agreement is in place but hinted that he could make an announcement about his future as early as June 1.

"I do not know where Anatoliy got this from," he told a press conference ahead of Bayern's DFB Pokal final against Stuttgart on Saturday. "Of course we joke around and everything about those rumours, but I do not know why he thinks that it is a done deal.

"If I am going to be in a good mood I will talk about it tomorrow [Saturday]. If not I will make an announcement in the first week of June."

Heynckes' future has long been the subject of speculation ever since Pep Guardiola was announced as the man to replace him at the newly-crowned European champions in the winter.

Both Heynckes and Paris Saint-Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti have been tipped to take over from Mourinho at Real Madrid at the end of the current campaign, as the Portuguese coach nears a return to the Premier League with Chelsea.

Poli to join AC Milan in €6.5m deal

Andrea Poli is set to become AC Milan's latest starlet

The 23-year-old Sampdoria and Italy midfielder is expected to join the Rossoneri imminently, having previously played for rivals Inter on loan last season

Sampdoria midfielder Andrea Poli is set to join AC Milan in a €6.5m deal this summer.

The 23-year-old, who spent last season on loan at rivals Inter, is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Rossoneri after meeting with representative Giovanni Branchini at Milan's headquarters in Via Turati during the week.

Goal understands that Sampdoria will receive the transfer fee in several installments, allowing Milan to place a reservation on a deal for Pedro Obiang, who is expected to follow Poli to the club in the next 12 months.

Poli's arrival could signal a huge overhaul in midfield, with the likes of Massimo Ambrosini, Mathieu Flamini, Antonio Nocerino and Bakate Traore all facing uncertain futures this summer.

Juventus showed a strong interest in the 23-year-old in January, and although they have been grappling with Milan for his signature for a number of months, he looks to have made the decision to join Massimiliano Allegri's side over the Serie A champions.

Inter, meanwhile, had the opportunity to sign the player in 2012, but were disinclined to make his loan deal permanent.
Poliwho began his career with Treviso in 2006 before moving to Sampdoria a year later, has won two senior caps for Italy after making his debut in a friendly against England last summer.

Pelegini to be appointed

Manchester City "very close" to announcing new manager
The Premier League runners-up are "very close" to announcing their new manager, according to chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, and will be active in the summer transfer window
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak expects to appoint the club's new manager within the next two weeks.

Goal understands Manuel Pellegrini will succeed Roberto Mancini at the Etihad Stadium after the 59-year-old claimed earlier this week that he already has a verbal agreement with the club, and City hope to have their man in place imminently.

"We’re pretty much done," Al Mubarak told the club's official website.

"We’re very close. I expect to make an appointment probably in the next two weeks."

The new manager can expect a healthy transfer kitty, with the City chief assuring fans that the club will be looking to strengthen the squad during the summer.

"Absolutely [we will buy players]," Al Mubarak continued.

"This is going to be a very important year for us. We’ve made some important management decisions. We will have a new manager on board in about two weeks.

"That manager, day one, has a responsibility to prepare a team for next season. A team that will be able to compete, to win every competition we’re involved in.

"There’s no doubt the team has to be constantly improved and this year is the same. This year we need to improve the team. The manager will have to make these decisions and I can assure you we will support him."

Pellegrini takes charge of his final game as Malaga boss on Saturday as the club take on Barcelona at Camp Nou, and the Chilean confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he will announce his decision regarding his future on Monday.

“On my future I will speak next week. On the Monday I will announce where,” Pellegrini told reporters on Friday.

“Tomorrow I finish my contract with Malaga and from Monday I will talk about my future.

“What do I take from Malaga? It has been very special, I didn’t come here just for a holiday, I came with the ambition to stay for many years.

“I have not been able to continue. Today my desire to run a sporting project that is important and ambitious has taken me away from Malaga.”

Palermo deny Napoli interest in Ilicic

Josip Ilicic looks set for a move abroad rather than to Napoli

The highly rated 25-year-old is thought to be on the radar of Rafa Benitez's side, but president Maurizio Zamparini insists there are currently foreing suitors only for the player
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini says that there has been no approach from Napoli for star player Josip Ilicic, following speculation surrounding the playmaker's future.
The highly-rated Slovenian midfielder has been linked with a move to the Partenopei this summer, but 71-year-old Zamparini has revealed the player is more likely to join an overseas club at present than join last season's Serie A runners-up.
“[Napoli President Aurelio] De Laurentiis spoke to me about Ilicic three months ago,” Zamparini told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“But since then I have not heard anything more. I don't think Napoli have an interest in Ilicic at this point.
“At the moment there are two foreign clubs in for the player.”
Ilicic has made 125 appearances for Palermo since joining in 2010, scoring 25 goals, and has previously been attracted the interest of the likes of Chelsea and AC Milan.

At international level, the 25-year-old has made 22 appearances for Slovenia since making his debut in 2010.

Falcao is throwing his career away by signing for Monaco

Falcao is throwing his career away by signing for Monaco

Radamel Falcao is arguably the third-best forward in the world, coveted by Europe's biggest clubs and at 27-years-old set to embark on the prime of his career. Yet he has now just joined the champions of Ligue 2. How could any true football fan be anything but bewildered by that last statement?

Of course, the former Atletico Madrid ace does not owe us neutrals anything. He has got where he is today all on his own; through a combination of exceptional talent and hard work. He deserves his success. He deserves his wealth (as much as any top footballer can truly ‘deserve’ the ridiculous riches bestowed upon him by the modern game).

As Tottenham’s refreshingly honest Benoit Assou-Ekotto likes to point out, injury can curtail a career at any moment, so the onus is on a rational-thinking professional to make as much money as possible while he can.

However, Falcao has already been handsomely rewarded for his ability to place a ball in the back of a net with great regularity, having been the subject of two multi-million euro transfer deals during an eight-year professional career that has taken him from Argentina to Spain via Portugal.

His next move was always guaranteed to be his most lucrative. Indeed, Chelsea were willing to meet the Colombian's reported €60 million buy-out clause in order to take him to Stamford Bridge on what would have been a very handsome wage.

Regardless of how the game views the Blues, and the way in which they have acquired their domestic and European success, one would have at least been able to accept Falcao at face value if upon signing for the Premier League outfit, he had claimed that he had joined Chelsea in order to realise his ambition of winning the Champions League. Given the Londoners lifted the trophy last year, we might very well have believed him when he said it wasn’t about the money.

However, how else are we expected to react to the news that he is instead to move to Monaco than by presuming that Falcao is motivated solely by financial gain? Surely he won’t have the audacity to claim that he has been lured to Monte Carlo by anything other than a near tax-exempt status that will enable him to earn a net salary of €14m-per-year? Surely he won't insult our intelligence by suggesting that he is driven by anything other than avarice? Surely he won’t speak of 'new challenges' and ‘exciting projects’, as Samuel Eto’o did when he accepted a world-record wage to join Anzhi Makhachkala two years ago?

At least in Eto’o's case, he could hide behind the fact that he had won all there was to win in the club game. The Cameroonian arrived in Russia a three-time Champions League winner; Falcao is merely the 'King of the Europa League'.

THE VIEW FROM SPAIN
Falcao signed up with Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes in 2011 and that led many to believe he would be moving to Madrid. And he did - but to Atletico and not Real. The two teams have a non-aggression pact, a gentleman's agreement which means they cannot sign each other's players. That stopped Sergio Aguero from crossing the city divide and likely halted Falcao from moving to the white side of the capital divide, too - at least for now.

Mendes, whose Gestifute agency is rumoured to have put up half of the €40 million fee paid by Atletico to Porto in 2011, boasts a healthy relationship with Real as Jose Mourinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho (now Monaco) and Angel Di Maria are all on his books. And it is being speculated in Spain that the Portuguese has inserted a clause into Falcao's Monaco contract which will allow him to move to los Blancos.

As a teenager, the Colombia striker revealed his dream to play for Real, a desire reiterated by his father last year. In the meantime, he will earn around €14 million tax free per year on the French Riviera. For a fourth season in a row, however, he will have no Champions League football.

- Ben Hayward | Spanish Football Expert
Yet by moving to Monaco that moniker could be as good as it gets for Falcao in terms of his legacy. Indeed, even if les Rouge et Blanc do win their battle with the French Football Association (FFA) over an extremely advantageous tax system that will allow them to attract other money-motivated characters to Monte Carlo, it will be at least another year before Monaco are in the Champions League.

Even then, as we have seen with Paris Saint-Germain, it is likely that it will take the Dmitry Rybolovlev-owned outfit a couple of years to establish themselves among Europe’s elite. By that stage, Falcao will be pushing 30 and what should have been the best years of his career will have passed, wasted while plying his trade away from a top club and outside of a truly top league.

In a sporting sense, that would be tragic. This is a player who almost single-handedly destroyed Chelsea in this season’s Super Cup final with a hat-trick of the highest order. Four months later, he lit up Camp Nou with a goal of such class that even the home fans could not help but applaud in admiration.

It was a perfectly understandable reaction from the Barcelona faithful. It has been obvious to anyone with a modicum of interest in the game that this is a player of rare talent. He belongs at the very highest level. He deserves to be playing Champions League football every year and seemed eminently capable of transforming Atletico into a major European force.

Falcao has been blessed with a precious gift and it would genuinely be a crying shame if he does not realise his full potential.

As the saying goes, the saddest thing in life is wasted talent. Falcao and his army of agents and financial benefactors have made his choice. It is the wrong one. And it will shape how we remember him forever.

Grenier: I've made a decision on my future

Arsenal target Grenier has made a decision on his future
The 22-year-old, who is being tracked by the Gunners, revealed he has already made a decision on his future but refused to confirm where he will be playing next season
Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier insists he has already made a decision over his future amid interest from Arsenal.

Earlier in May, Arsene Wenger confirmed to Telefoot that he was monitoring the 22-year-old, likening the playmaker to former Gunners player Samir Nasri.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas warned Arsenal they would need to pay €36 million in order to sign the Grenier this summer, but the in-demand midfielder has now confirmed he has made a decision on his next destination.

"Have I made a decision? Yes. More or less. I keep it for myself as I care for my discussions I have had with the president and the coach," Grenier told Le Progres.

"I just want to say that I've never had demands. Moreover, either with the club or with my advisors, figures were never mentioned. My choice is a sporting one."

Grenier, who has recently been called up to the France national team for les Blues' upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Brazil in the absence of Nasri, insists he is unfazed by speculation surrounding his future and will not be perturbed by competitions for places at the Emirates Stadium.

"A fight between Arsenal and Lyon for me? Maybe. The competition at Arsenal? There is already that here [at Lyon]," Grenier continued.

"It is the same in all the major clubs and it is not a hindrance in my decision making. I'm still a young player. But I always set goals and do everything to surpass myself. Whether it is at Lyon or elsewhere.

"For now, I'm still a Lyon player and I may stay next season. I do not know myself what will happen. The only thing I expect is really at a sporting level, and my desire is to progress."
